7-yr-old theft case solved; nephew among 3 held

BATHINDA: The police have solved a seven-year-old theft case by arresting three persons and recovering gold ornaments weighing 200 gm, Indian and foreign currency in lakhs, and .12 bore gun.

The police have solved a seven-year-old theft case by arresting three persons and recovering gold ornaments weighing 200 gm, Indian and foreign currency in lakhs, and .12 bore gun.

In his complaint, Ajmer Singh, an NRI who lives in Norway, has stated that the accused, who is his nephew, had planned to steal money and jewellery that he had brought from abroad.

The police said a case of theft had been registered in 2011 after a complaint by the victim.

The accused has been identified as Jagwinder Singh from Dharampura, Barnala. Rashpal Khan and Gurdit Singh have been identified as the other two accused in the case while Sukhjeet Singh, the fourth accused in the case, is at large.

Addressing a press conference in the Mini-Secretariat building, SP (City) Gurmeet Singh said, “The theft incident dates back to 2011 at Lehra Dhurkot village, Nathana block, where the accused stole money and ornaments of his aunt, who is a resident of Norway, and had come to Bathinda. The accused had admitted that he had an eye on the assets of his aunt and stole the material with help of his friends.”

The stolen items include 20 gms of gold jewellery, 1.65 lakh in Indian rupees, 1,100 Euros, 1,200 Krona, 1,000 in Denmark currency, 900 pounds and .12 bore gun.

The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC.
