Bathinda, December 5

District unit members of the Aam Aadmi Party staged a protest over the soaring onion price near Fire Brigade Chowk in the city on Thursday.

Donning garlands made of onions, party workers raised slogans against the government for not doing enough to curtail the price of one of the most important ingredient that is used in every household on a daily basis.

Navdeep Jeeda, an executive member, said: “The onion price has already been soaring and being sold at Rs80 to Rs100 in the market. For a long time, people have been spending extra money in buying one of the most important ingredients used in cooking. The increased onion price burns a hole in the pocket of common man.”

“We are wearing these garlands made of onions because we fear they may vanish from the market soon. People were buying one kilogram at Rs70 in November. Now, onions are being sold at Rs80 per kg. The price of matured onion is Rs100 per kg in the city,” he said.
