Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councilor Padamjeet Mehta was on Wednesday elected as the new mayor of the Bathinda Municipal Corporation.

Despite majority in the House, the Congress lost the mayoral election as 35 councillors out of the total 45 present voted in Mehta’s favour.

The 26-year-old AAP councillor is the son of PCA chairman Amarjit Mehta. He is the youngest to be elected as the mayor across the North region.
