The overflowing of sewage has caused a major problem to students of agricultural sciences at the local government college. The stinking water on Thursday entered the fields being used by students to grow vegetables and other plants as a part of their course.

A senior employee of the government college said students are given marks in their practical exam on the basis of growth of the plants. “However, they will now have to face a harrowing time,” he said.

He further said the college authorities had apprised the officials of the Water Supply and Sewerage Department of the overflowing sewage earlier, but nothing happened. “This is the second time when the sewage has entered the fields in the college. The sewerage system of the Model Town area is faulty, resulting in this situation,” he said.

Meanwhile, another employee of the government college said the boundary wall of the government college, too, might collapse anytime now.

On the other hand, PS Dhanju, XEN of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Muktsar, said: “The sewage cleaning is under way and some faults have occurred at some place. We are hopeful that the sewage would be drained out from the college fields in the next two days.”
