Amend Sixth Pay Commission’s proposals: Punjab, UT employees front

Bathinda, July 9

Punjab and UT Employees and Pensioners’ Joint Front, Bathinda, today staged a protest march from the DC office to bus stand demanding the amendments to the Sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations and resolution of their long-pending issues.

Later, protesters blocked the road outside the bus stand for around an hour, disrupting the vehicular movement and troubling the commuters. They raised slogans against the state government and the Finance Minister.

Front spokesperson Darshan Maur said all employees were united on issues pertaining to the privatisation of departments, retention of unskilled workers and restoration of old-age pension. He said the pay commission would not be of any benefit to the employees.

Union leaders said if the government did not amend the 6th Pay Commission’s proposals as per the demands of the employees, they would take an oath not to vote for the Congress in the 2022 Assembly elections. — TNS
