At 73.9%, voter turnout dips in Bathinda

BATHINDA: The Bathinda parliamentary seat on Sunday registered a voter turnout of 73.90 per cent in this Lok Sabha elections. Last time in 2014, the constituency recorded 75 per cent polling.

The Bathinda parliamentary seat on Sunday registered a voter turnout of 73.90 per cent in this Lok Sabha elections. Last time in 2014, the constituency recorded 75 per cent polling.

Despite initiatives by the Election Commission to encourage voters to exercise their franchise, the Bathinda (Urban) Assembly constituency recorded the lowest turnout of 67.6 per cent. In the last Lok Sabha elections, voters of the Assembly segment did not show much enthusiasm.

According to the District Election Office, Budhlada topped the table with 79 per cent polling in the Bathinda parliamentary constituency, which comprises nine Assembly segments.

The Assembly segments of Mansa district — Mansa, Budhlada and Sardulgarh — registered maximum polling.

According to the figures, Budhlada and Bucho Assembly segments recorded 12 and 11.36 per cent turnouts, respectively, at 9 am. By 11 am, Maur registered a turnout of 39 per cent followed by Budladha at 29%, Bathinda (Rural) at 28.50, Bucho at 27.35% and Mansa at 26.29 %.

By 1 pm, Budhlada witnessed a phenomenal increase in the voter turnout with 47 per cent followed by Maur (43%), Talwandi Sabo (41%) and Mansa (39.98%).

By 3 pm, Budhlada recorded 52 per cent polling, while Lambi registered 55 per cent polling followed by Budhlada (52%) and Sardulgarh (51%). Mansa and Maur recorded turnouts of 50 per cent each.

At 5 pm, Talwandi Sabo recorded the highest turnout of 64.48 per cent, followed by Budhlada (64%) and Bucho (63%). Lambi, Maur and Sardulgarh Assembly segments recorded 62 per cent polling each.
