In a meeting with local shopkeepers, it was unanimously decided that no one will sell items like cigarettes, ‘bidis’, or chewing tobacco. The panchayat has warned that violators will face a fine of Rs 5,000.

To spread awareness, a rally on the ill effects of tobacco was held today. Several panchayat members and villagers participated in it.

Earlier in August, the panchayat of Katorewala village in the Malout Assembly segment in Muktsar district had passed a similar resolution banning the sale of tobacco and its byproducts, energy drinks, and the use of drugs within the village premises.
