After remaining inactive for nearly a year, two-wheelers of the police control room (PCR) have been reactivated in Bathinda town to strengthen law and order.

Talking to The Tribune, Bathinda SSP Jyoti Yadav said around 70 police personnel had been deployed for PCR patrolling duties. “During the day, 20 two-wheelers patrol city roads, while 16 operate at night. Each vehicle carries two police personnel, one experienced and one fresher. The primary aim is to control the crime graph. A visible police presence instills fear among miscreants and helps curb crime,” the SSP said.

She added that the initiative had been restarted almost three weeks ago, and the results were positive.

Meanwhile, sources said that former SSP Harmanbir Singh Gill had initially started the PCR motorcycles two years ago, which had proven effective in checking incidents like snatching and theft. However, they gradually became inactive.

“This initiative significantly helped in controlling street crimes,” said a senior police officer, adding that the revived PCR patrolling is expected to further improve public safety.
