The Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union has started preparations for the November 24 rally as it organised meetings with farm labourers at Behman Diwana, Deon, Virk Kalan and Sardargarh villages here on Saturday.

Addressing meetings, state joint secretary and former MLA Jagjit Singh Joga said to provide jobs to unemployed children of rural poor and farm labourers, industries should be installed in villages, which could use unripe crops as raw material.

He said expensive education was out of poor labourers’ reach due to which their children remained less educated and failed to get jobs. So if agriculture-related industry was set up in villages, they might get employment and farmers could also benefit with its production being utilised as raw material.

Joga said if paper and manure industries were set up soon in villages, there would not be any problem of stubble burning. Moreover, labourers would get jobs and farmers price for its stubble.

Lashing out at SAD, he said it was very disappointing that despite Harsimrat Kaur Badal being Union Food Processing Minister for the last four years, she failed to bring any industry to the state.

The Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union appealed to villagers to reach the massive rally being organised on the occasion of the golden jubilee of their union in Bathinda on November 24.

Another leader Jung Singh Taggar said their public meetings would continue till November 20 and they would cover 70 villages in the district.
