Seeking ownership rights of the shamlat land in Khemuana and Jandawala village, members of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Kadian staged a protest outside the Zila Parishad office here on Tuesday.
The protest was headed by district president of the union Jagsir Singh Jeeda. A delegation of farmers met the ADC (Development) on Tuesday and brought their demand to his notice. After getting assurance from the ADC (D), they lifted their protest.
To get the ownership rights of shamlat lands, villagers had staged a protest for 19 days in 2017 on the national highway at Jeeda village.
The then Deputy Commissioner, Diprava Lakra, had announced from the kisan morcha stage that the state government had given him the right to take a decision on these lands. He had urged the villagers to lift the protest.
He had urged the protesting farmers to allow the 'inteqal' (mutation) of land that had come under acquisition. He had said later, ‘inteqal’ of land in these three villages would be done group wise. Thereafter, the protest was lifted.
Till date, the ‘inteqal’ process of land in the three villages is yet to start.
