Canara Bank holds regional meet to set future roadmap for PSBs

BATHINDA: The first stage of the bottom-up consultation process designed to generate ideas and review performance of banks, was conducted at the regional level on Saturday by the Canara Bank at its regional office in Bathinda.

The first stage of the bottom-up consultation process designed to generate ideas and review performance of banks, was conducted at the regional level on Saturday by the Canara Bank at its regional office in Bathinda.

Officials from 44 branches within the region’s jurisdiction were present at the meeting. The meeting was headed by Ranjeev Kumar, AGM, circle office, Chandigarh and Barun Singh Thakur, AGM, regional office, Bathinda.

The meet focused on the ways and means to increase credit to various sectors of the economy, to enhance use of technology to bring about innovation and enable big data analytics and make banking citizen centric as well as more responsive to the needs and aspirations of senior citizens, farmers, small industrialists, entrepreneurs, youth, students and women.

A discussion was also held on various challenges facing the banking sector with a view to suggest reforms in public sector banks and future roadmap for them. A discussion was also held on topics, including increasing digital payments, corporate governance in PSBs, credit for India’s MSMEs, use of technology in PSBs, retail lending, agricultural credit, export credit in India, need to establish financial grid and enabling of bank credit.

The meet also reviewed performance of the branch and region and its alignment with national priorities, such as credit support for economic growth, infrastructure, farm sector, Jal Shakti, the MSME sector and MUDRA loans, education loans, Swachh Bharat, ease of living, direct benefit transfers, green economy, export credit and digital ecomony.

Ranjeev Kumar and Barun Singh Thakur said many implementable and innovative suggestions came up on how PSBs in general and the Canara bank in particular, could improve their performance and what the road map for future should be. These suggestions were collated and had been sent to the zonal level for further discussion at the state level. — TNS
