To acknowledge the ex-servicemen’s contribution, Veterans Day on Sunday was celebrated under the aegis of the Chetak Corps here. Around 400 ex-servicemen from Bathinda, Mansa, Talwandi Sabo, Bakhta Bhai and Rampura Phool attended the function.
Among the important dignitaries present during the function were Major-General Mohinder Singh, a recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal, Lieut-Col (retd) GPI Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Aadesh Medical College, and Colonel (retd) BS Dhaliwal, ex-Vice-Chancellor, Guru Kashi University, and Olympian Major Baldev Singh.
A wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at “Yodha Yaadgar” to pay tributes to the martyrs. The General Officer Commanding, Chetak Corps, addressed the gathering and reassured the veterans in clear terms about the Indian Army’s commitment to the well-being of veterans, widows and their dependents.
He expressed his gratitude for their priceless sacrifices and selfless contribution towards upholding the rich heritage and tradition of the Indian Army and assured them of all possible assistance in the days to come.
During the lunch, one could see bonhomie and camaraderie rekindled among the veterans and the serving officers as they shared their experiences. The conduct was appreciated by all veterans who extended their gratitude to the Chetak Corps for organising the event and providing them with an opportunity to share their experiences and grievances.
