Bathinda, September 14

Accusing Congress leaders of attacking and trying to take control of the Bhairupa Municipal Council (MC), SAD leaders today met IG AK Mittal and Bathinda SSP Nanak Singh, seeking action against them. Former minister Sikander Singh Maluka and Bhairupa Municipal Council president were among the delegates who met police officials.

Maluka said Congress leaders tried to take control of the muncial councils of Rampura, Mehraj and Bhairupa in the past as well, but “today Congress leader Sukhdev Singh Sandhu, along with his associates, attacked SAD leader and Bhairupa council president Gurmail Singh’s office.

Even the nameplate of Gurmail Singh, installed outside his office, was removed, Maluka said.

He also alleged that Congress leaders threatened the president and SAD councillors. “We made the IG and the SSP aware of the situation. We have also filed a complaint seeking registration of a case against those who attacked the MC president’s office. The police have assured us of action soon,” he said.

According to Maluka, if no action is taken, the SAD will start an indefinite protest outside the Phul DSP office.

Former MLA Darshan Singh Kotfatta, Surjit Singh Bhairupa, Rattan Sharma, Jagtar, Harman, Gurmail Singh, Harjinder Singh and Kuldeep Singh accompanied Maluka.

Bathinda SSP Nanak Singh said SAD leaders met him and he had marked a probe to SP (D), special branch, to look into the matter. Further action would be taken after receiving probe report, he added.
