CCTV footage shows two men arriving on a bicycle later to help her flee the spot
A domestic help allegedly decamped with about Rs 7 lakh in cash, gold jewellery weighing about four tolas and a scooter from a house at Birla Colony in Malout town on Friday evening, along with two male accomplices.
The incident took place around 4.30 pm at the residence of Vinod Kumar Jagga, a commission agent.
The accused woman, a Nepalese national hired through an agency a short time ago, allegedly served tea laced with a sedative to Jagga’s wife and another domestic help. Both women fell unconscious shortly after consuming the drink.
Taking advantage of the situation, the accused woman, who knew where the keys were kept, allegedly decamped with cash and gold jewellery.
The CCTV footage later showed two men arriving on a bicycle. While one of them fled on a scooter along with the domestic help carrying two bags, the other fled on the bicycle.
The accused domestic help had been provided accommodation in the same house by the family.
Harpreet Singh, SHO, Malout City police station, said, “We are registering a case in this regard. The victim’s family had not carried out verification of the Nepalese domestic help. They hired her after finding a contact number on Google.”
