Bathinda, February 23
Members of the CPF Employees’ Union continued their indefinite dharna for the second consecutive day at Children’s Park here on Saturday. Union members raised slogans against the state government and accused it of not reviving the new pension scheme.
The union members said if the government did not fulfil their demands, they would hold a protest march again in the city. Members of the union from Fatehgarh Sahib also joined the them on Saturday.
Amrik Singh, an executive member of the union, said, “We have been protesting against the apathetic stance of the state government for a long time, but nothing has been done. There are a number of states which have already started providing benefits of the new pension scheme to employees. Our indefinite dharna will continue until the government relent and fulfil our genuine demands.”
He said, “The government must provide benefits under the new pension scheme (NPS) which was implemented in January 2004. The state government had discontinued the old scheme of the GPF for the employees who were recruited after this date. It should introduce the new CPF scheme.” — TNS
