Father of 3 daughters dies after ‘chitta’ injection, 1 held
Two have been booked under Section 105 of the BNS
A farm labourer and father of three daughters allegedly died after injecting ‘chitta’ (heroin) in Lakkarwala village of Muktsar district on Monday. The Sadar Malout police have booked two persons under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the BNS and arrested one of them.
Lakhvir Singh, the younger brother of the deceased, Sukhchain Singh, lodged a complaint with the police. He alleged that Sukhchain had started consuming drugs about four months ago but had quit after undergoing de-addiction treatment.
Lakhvir said, “Sukhchain returned from Goindwal Sahib on Sunday night after harvesting a mustard crop there. On Monday, he left home. When family members went looking for him, they reached the house of one Deep Singh in the village, where Sukhchain was found lying unconscious on a cot. Deep told them that both had injected ‘chitta’ and that he was trying to revive Sukhchain by pouring water on his head, but he had already died.”
Deep Singh and Des Raj Desa of Alamwala, who allegedly supplied the ‘chitta’, have been booked. Deep has been arrested, while Desa is absconding, a police officer said.
