The police on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of mobile snatchers with the arrest of two persons. The police said they had also recovered 20 cellphones from their possession.

The suspects have been identified as Ramandeep Singh and Sunny, both residents of Bhucho Mandi.

Addressing a press conference at the Kotwali police station, DSP GS Romana said, “A gang of mobile snatchers was active in the city for some time. Members of the gang used to roam around on their motorcycles and snatch cellphones mostly from pedestrians. After committing the crime, they used to flee from the spot.”

Romana said, “Head Constable Bhupinder Singh had received information that two youngsters have been roaming around the mini-secretariat area to sell mobile phones. Thereafter, a manhunt was launched to nab them. The police have recovered 20 cellmobile phones of different brands from their possession. A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered against them. One of the suspects was already booked in a case under the Excise Act at the Rama police station.”
