More than 1,000 job applicants registered themselves in the second phase of the mega job fair at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda.

As many as 14 companies conducted interviews and shortlisted candidates for various job profiles.

Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Ajaib Singh Bhatti presided over as chief guest at the event.

While addressing mediapersons, Bhatti said, “This is a great platform for aspirants to get jobs in private firms. Under the Ghar Ghar Rozgar initiative of the Punjab Government, emphasis was not only laid on creating jobs but also helping candidates attain soft skills and basic computer knowledge free of cost at the District Employment Bureau, Bathinda.”

He exhorted the youngsters to join jobs that were being offered, get requisite experiences and move on to next jobs for higher packages.

Earlier, the phase one of the job fair was organised at Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo, on November 12 and 13.

He said the state government was committed to providing employment to every household for which state-level job fairs were being at 36 venues from November 12 to 22 across Punjab. These would target giving employment to more than 80, 000 candidates.

Veenu Badal, wife of Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, also attended the event and encouraged youngsters to find the right kind of job.

She held interaction with company representatives and job aspirants. She appreciated role and efforts of the MRSPTU for partnering the responsibility of this region in this flagship scheme of the Punjab Government to provide jobs.

MRSPTU Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohan Paul Singh Ishar said the job fair had elicited good response and a large number of youngsters had flocked the venue to appear for interviews.

Earlier, during the two-day job fair held at Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo, more than 1,100 candidates had participated, of which 673 appeared for interviews and the final outcomes are awaited for many companies.

At MRSPTU, 14 companies participated, hunting for candidates with master’s degree, bachelor’s degree, diploma and Class XII qualification.

Lack of seating arrangement

Many candidates rued that there were not adequate seating arrangements. There were few chairs to accommodate the aspirants and even tables/benches were also not placed near the registration counters.

As a result, candidates were seen sitting on the floor while fulfilling the registration formalities.

Gurmeet Singh, one of the job aspirants, said, “The government is organising a state-level mega job fair so they should have at least made adequate arrangements for seating. There are no chairs or tables where we can sit or fill forms comfortably.”
