BATHINDA: After observing a shutdown yesterday over the stray cattle menace, Mansa residents started an indefinite chain hunger strike at Gurdwara Chowk in the city today.

After observing a shutdown yesterday over the stray cattle menace, Mansa residents started an indefinite chain hunger strike at Gurdwara Chowk in the city today.

Those who sat on hunger strike today are Punjab Kisan Union leader Ruldu Singh, Jasvir Kaur, Harinder Singh Manshaia, Dhanna Mall Goyal, Bikar Singh, Simarjit Kaur, Renu, Ratan Bhola, Karnail Singh and Makhan Singh. The protest is being headed by the Stray Cattle Control Action Committee, Mansa. They are demanding an amendment to Cow Protection Act so that American cow and bull may be allowed for sale or transporting them out of the state.

They also demanded a compensation worth Rs 10 lakh for the persons who have died due to stray cattle.

While addressing the protesters, Manish Babbi said, "The protest initiated against the administration is a non-political agitation. It is a joint protest to safeguard the lives of the people. public. During the protest, 11 persons will observe hunger strike every day."
