Bathinda, September 14

Arun Kumar Mittal (IPS), who recently took charge as IG, Bathinda range, has said maintaining law and order with the help of people will be his top priority. He has replaced MF Farooqui, who was transferred to PAP-II, Jalandhar, as head a few days ago.

While talking to Bathinda Tribune, Mittal said he would adopt zero tolerance policy against drugs and ensure no drug pedlling in the districts under the range besides resolving public grievances at the earliest. He underscored the importance of public support in dealing with illegal activities.

“Apart from maintaining law and order, strict action will be taken against people involved in drug trade. The problem of illicit liquor smuggling from Haryana will also be dealt with an iron hand,” he said.

He also appealed to the people to give information to him or the SSP regarding illegal activities, including drug peddling, if they come across. He said he would work for better police-public participation in controlling the crime. Snatching and theft incidents will also be controlled, he said.

According to Mittal, he will review the working of the police and various schemes going on.

The IG said his emphasis would also be on solving traffic problems in the city.

"Anti-social elements would not be allowed to flourish. I look forward to interact with the people of the city. Without public support, police cannot deliver its best. So I plan to initiate regular public and police meetings soon,” he said, adding that he had many plans to make policing better and create a friendly environment for the people seeking justice in the Bathinda Range.

AK Mittal, a 2000 batch IPS officer, has served as Budhladha SP, Faridkot SSP and DIG (Border Range).
