Jeevanjot, a resident of Mansa, was named in the alleged conspiracy following a purported social media post. The police submission came in response to an application filed by Balkaur Singh, father of the deceased, through his counsel, advocate Satinder Pal Singh Mittal, seeking the status of the accused — Navjot Singh, Kanwar Grewal, Avtar Singh and Jeevanjot Singh.
During the previous hearing on April 10, the complainant’s counsel had argued that the police had neither clarified whether these accused had been arrested or found innocent, nor had they filed any cancellation report or challan in court.
During Friday’s proceedings, the prosecution stated that Jeevanjot Singh had been found innocent, while the investigation against the other three accused is still underway. Sources said that according to the chargesheet filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case, all four accused had been named under Section 120-B of the IPC for criminal conspiracy.
Meanwhile, two prosecution witnesses were examined, while the testimony of a third witness was partly recorded today. Balkaur Singh was also present in court, though his chief examination is yet to be concluded, his counsel said.
The next hearing in the case has been fixed for May 22.
