Khaira meets assault victim

Sukhpal Singh Khaira, president of the Punjab Ekta Party (PEP), on Monday met Meena Rani, a resident of Muktsar, who was allegedly beaten up by supporters of a Congress leader. She has been admitted to the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital here.

Accusing the police of going soft on the accused in this case, Khaira said, “The police may try to weaken the case against Congress councillor Rakesh Chaudhary and his family members. They are working under political pressure and have turned a blind eye towards the atrocities on the poor people.”

“The Muktsar incident was highlighted due to recording by the son of the victim and the impact of social media. The Muktsar SSP should file a challan in the case without any delay to prevent bail to the accused. Chaudhary was SAD councillor for 10 years and joined the Congress to seek political patronage to his misdeeds. He is running an illegal finance business and grabbed properties of people who failed to repay high interest rates. Entry of criminals in politics is danger to our democracy,” he said.

Khaira also accused doctors of the medical college of not caring the victim properly. He said that family members of Meena Rani were living under fear.
