Bathinda, February 12

The city police have arrested two persons for killing Parminder Singh, a resident of Lehra Mohabbat village, two days ago. The accused have been identified as Paramjit Singh Pamma and Amritpal, alias Neetu, both residents of Lehra Mohabbat village.

As per preliminary investigation, the accused suspected that the victim had bad intentions towards Pamma’s wife. The information was shared by IGP, Bathinda Range, Arun Mittal during a press conference here on Wednesday.

The police managed to nab both the accused on Wednesday around 11.30 am near the Lehra Mohabbat bus stand area when they were trying to flee the village on a motorcycle.

Addressing the mediapersons, the IGP said: “Around 1.30 am on February 9, the Nathana police station got information that Parminder Singh, son of Gurmeet Singh of Lehra Mohabbat, was murdered with sharp-edged weapons by some unidentified persons. After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene. A case under Sections 302 and 120-B of the IPC was registered against unidentified persons on February 10.”

Arun Mittal said: “A team, headed by Senior Superintendent of Police Nanak Singh and other senior police officials, managed to solve the case in just two days and arrested the two accused along with the weapon used in the crime.”

Senior police officials said a special team was constituted to crack the murder case and after studying each and every aspect of the case minutely and exploring different angles, the investigation team managed to trace the accused in the matter.

During interrogation, it was found that 32-year-old Pamma, one of the accused, was a married man and had a two-year-old son. He was an employee of Lehra Mohabbat Thermal Plant. Amritpal, another accused, is a 22-year-old youth.

The police said Paramjit Singh suspected that Parminder had bad intentions towards his wife as a result of which the former hatched a plot with his cousin Amritpal and murdered him when he was returning after attending “jaago” from a neighbour’s house. The police have recovered the axe used in the crime and blood-stained clothes of the accused from their house. The accused would be produced before the local court on Thursday.
