Lohri celebrated with enthusiasm

The festival of Lohri was celebrated with great enthusiasm at several educational and institutions here today.

A special assembly was organised to celebrate Lohri for the girl child by students of Police Public School. The morning assembly began with a prayer song followed by poem recitations on Lohri for the girl child. The solo song was sung by Damanpreet, duet song by Archita and Komal. School principal Monika Singh gave greetings on Lohri and makar sankranti.

A function was held at Saint Paul’s High School to celebrate Lohri. A bonfire was lit up and teachers apprised the students of the importance of the festival and makar sankranti.

A function “Lohri Dhiyaan Di” was organised by the State Bank of India’s Rural Self Employment Training Institute and Agriculture branch at Jassi Pau Wali village, where Lohri of 20 girl child was celebrated with zeal and fervour.

DLSA celebrates Lohri at Joga Nand village

bathinda: The District Legal Services Authority, Bathinda, along with the Sukh Relief Welfare Society, celebrated the Lohri festival at Government Primary School in Joga Nand village here today.

Dr Mandeep Mittal also joined the Lohri celebrations. Munish Pandhi, president, Adarsh Welfare Society, who was also present, assured that they would provide shoes and socks to needy students.

Jasvir Singh Sran of the Sukh Relief Welfare Society said the society had adopted the primary school and would provide benches, safe drinking water and swings. A cultural programme was also held in which the participating students were given gifts by the society. The Secretary asked the students to identify differently-abled persons who needed artificial limb, tri-cycle or hearing kits. The students were informed about the beneficial schemes. The Secretary made them realise the importance of learning English and general knowledge. He undertook to take their regular test so that children could learn and become independent and responsible citizens. —TNS
