Bathinda, July 19

A man in his twenties was allegedly murdered under mysterious circumstances by an unknown person in the wee hours on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Rupinder Singh (23), who was a resident of the Daba-Lohara road area, Ludhiana.

According to sources, the deceased is suspected to have died due to bullet injury on his head. The police have recovered two cartridges from the site where the body was recovered.

The police said the body of the deceased was found lying near Ring Road in the morning. Residents who had come for morning walk on Ring Road were shocked to see the body lying on the road around 6:30 am.

They informed the police regarding it. The police reached the spot and verified identification of the deceased from the ID proof recovered from his pocket.

Balwinder Singh, father of the deceased, who is a carpenter in Ludhiana, said, “My son did not like to assist me in my work and often used to stay away from home for weeks, without telling his whereabouts. He left from Ludhiana on June 30 and we did not hear it from him after that. We got a call from the police on Thursday morning regarding the incident. We do not know anyone with whom Rupinder shared any enmity.”

Station House Officer (SHO) at the Canal Colony police station, Parminder Singh, said, “The deceased is suspected to have died of a bullet injury. On the complaint of the family members of the deceased, we have registered a case against an unidentified person under Section 302 of the IPC. After we got the post-mortem conducted at the Civil Hospital, the body was handed over to the family. A .32 bore pistol is suspected to have been used.”

“Rupinder had come to Bathinda around 10 days ago, without informing his parents. As per his parents, his behaviour was quite unusual and he would remain away from home for days. We will scrutinise the CCTV footage and mobile phone call details to get to the root of the matter,” Singh added. — TNS
