Bathinda, August 21

The police have booked a person, identified as Jaskaran Dhillon, for posting a post on Facebook over the incident that took place between Head Constable Ranjit Singh and advocate Navdeep Jeeda a few days ago.

According to the police, the suspect threatened the Head Constable and wrote that “he would give Rs 21,000 to a person who would kill the policeman”. In his complaint, Head Constable Ranjit Singh said he had directly been threatened by Jaskaran Dhillon in a Facebook post over the “assault incident” .

A case under Sections 115 and 302 of the IPC has been registered against the suspect at the Civil Lines police station. Surprisingly, the Bathinda police have put the name of Jaskaran Dhillon in the accused column of the daily crime register, but they have not added any additional information regarding his address and father’s name in the register. SSP Dr Nanak Singh also confirm the development and said a case had been registered against the suspect.

On the other hand, lawyers alleged that the police was trying to create pressure by registering an FIR against those who were supporting them in this case.

They said many police officers had used abusive language against lawyers on the social media over the incident, but those cops had not booked them. Former president of the District Bar Association Ranjit Singh Jalal said, “The police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC, but Head Constable Ranjit Singh has not been murdered.” — TNS
