Bathinda, July 19
A 40-year-old man died in a blast at a garment manufacturing unit near Jida village in Goniana Mandi on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Bhola Yadav, a native of Bihar, who worked as a gas welder at the unit.
According to the police, Bhola Yadav was working on a container drum with a gas cutter. As the iron container was hot, the gas accumulated inside the container caught fire (from the gas cutter), resulting in a blast.
Yadav sustained fatal injuries in the blast and died on the spot.
A co-worker of the deceased said the construction work of a new building as part of expansion of the garment manufacturing unit, Sportking, was on for some time now.
“Bhola Yadav was doing gas welder’s work. Around 11:00 am, I heard sound of a blast from the area where Yadav was working. After I rushed to the site, he was lying there unconscious. We took him to the Civil Hospital in Bathinda where he was declared brought dead.”
Angrej Singh, in-charge at the Nehian Wala police station, along with his team, reached the spot and recovered the body. Thereafter, the police sent it for post-mortem to the Civil Hospital in Bathinda.
The security in-charge of the firm, Krishan Dutta, said they would provide all sorts of help to the family of the deceased.
