The Youth Services Department, with the help of NSS units in Mansa, on Tuesday launched a programme for installing reflectors on vehicles so that the incidents of road accidents can be curbed during the foggy season.

Mansa SSP Mandhir Singh kicked off the drive by installing reflectors on the vehicles. As per a release, the SSP said installing the reflectors on the rear and front of a vehicle helps in instantly spotting and noticing a stationary or slow moving vehicle on road during fog or pitch darkness.

“In view of the rising road accidents, we all must focus our attention towards the road safety and let’s pledge not to take the safety precautions lightly during fog this winter,” he said.

He urged the people to get all their vehicles fitted with reflectors to avoid any untoward incident, especially at night or early hours.

He stressed on the need for installing reflectors on all commercial vehicles, including small daily commute vehicles and tractor-trailers.

Deputy Director of Youth Services, Raghbir Mann, said all villagers in Mansa would be made aware of the importance of reflectors.

He said no vehicle should be parked at roadside without a reflector as there had been instances in the past where a fast moving vehicle collided with a stationary vehicle due to lack of visibility in the absence of a reflector.
