A man allegedly killed his wife and injured his parents and brother at Raike Khurd village here on Tuesday night.
The police have booked the husband and six others, who are yet to be identified. The suspect has been identified as Hardeep Singh (28), who was married to deceased Rajveer Kaur of Muktsar three months ago. A case under Sections 302, 307, 148 and 149 of the IPC has been registered against the suspects.
Talking to Bathinda Tribune, suspect’s mother Charanjit Kaur said, “Around 11 pm, all family members were sleeping. Hardeep, along with 10 to 12 persons came, to the house and attacked us. They were carrying sharp-edged weapons and my daughter-in-law Rajveer Kaur sustained severe injuries. She succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Thereafter, Hardeep and his accomplices attacked me, my husband and another son. As we raised the alarm, other villagers reached our house. At the same time, all of them fled from the spot.”
In the incident, the father and the brother of the suspect had sustained injuries, who were admitted to a private hospital in a critical condition. The mother, who sustained injuries on her head and arms, has been undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital.
Charanjit said, “My son is an addict and had been demanding money from us for the past many weeks. Hardeep was not doing any work and after his marriage, we had stopped him giving money. He had started living separately around 20 days ago. He had threatened to kill us around 15 days ago.”
Deceased’s mother Baljinder Kaur said, “Only three months ago, my daughter was married to Hardeep. We did not know that his husband would kill her brutally. Now, all I want that accused Hardeep Singh and his associates must get life imprisonment or death sentence at the earliest.”
Rajpal Singh, Station House Officer, Nandgarh police station, said, “We have registered a case against Hardeep Singh and six other unidentified persons. The suspects are on the run for now. We have got the post-mortem examination of the deceased done at the Civil Hospital. The body has been handed over to the family.”
“We have recorded statements of family members and have been trying to locate the suspects. We will carry out search at all their possible hideouts. We will also scrutinise the call details of the accused,” the Station House Officer added.
