Muktsar, February 28
For better policing, the Muktsar police have started a new beat system in all 235 villages and 77 municipal wards in the district by designating one to two police personnel each in these villages and wards.
Rajbachan Singh Sandhu, SSP, Muktsar, said the DGP Punjab had launched this scheme, under which these cops would make direct contact with village panchayats, municipal councillors and other distinguished persons.
“In small villages and municipal wards, one cop has been deployed in each village/ municipal ward. But in big villages, two cops each have been deployed. These cops, in the ranks of constable, head-constable, assistant sub-inspector and sub-inspector, will make a WhatsApp group to know about each and every minute development in the village/municipal ward, try to sort out at their own level. If there is any major issue, they will bring it to the notice of their senior officers. By doing this, public will not have to come to the police stations,” he said.
He added, “Later, these cops will visit the assigned villages/municipal wards after the gap of one week and hold meetings. They will even maintain a register. These cops will even perform their routine duties in the police stations.”
The SSP further hoped that it would bring good results and control the crime rate. “Besides, it will help us in bringing out youngsters from menace of drugs. These cops will continue to work in their assigned villages even after their transfer to any other police station in the district,” he added. DSP (H) Hina Gupta has been appointed as nodal officer for this system.
