The traffic police have launched a campaign to capture stray cattle in the city. On Thursday, three stray cattle were captured from different parts of the city.

Notably, a number of accidents have been reported due to the stray cattle menace in the past. Many people have lost their lives after their vehicles collided with stray cattle roaming freely on roads.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Gurjit Singh Romana said they had set a target to check the stray cattle menace in the city. Taking a serious note of the stray cattle menace and problems being faced by commuters on a daily basis, Romana called up a meeting with traffic police personnel and charted out a strategy to check the menace in the city.

Last month, three motorcyclists were killed as a herd of stray cattle rammed into them. Though several accidents involving stray animals have taken place on city roads, no concrete step has been taken by the administration to solve the problem. Herd of stray animals are a common sight on highways and city roads.

Romana said, “On the first day of the drive, we have captured three stray cattle near the Multania overbridge and transported them to a gaushala. In the coming days, we will continue to capture them from different locations in the city and accommodate them in different gaushalas. Apart from the city, if residents from villages extend support, we will be able to wipe out this problem forever.”
