Thousands of devotees thronged gurdwaras, including Gurdwara Qila Mubarak, to pay obeisance on Gurpurb. Prayers and shabad kirtan were performed at the gurdwaras.

A large number of private and social organisations also organised langars at various places.

Sikh bodies organised religious programmes in gurdwaras to mark the occasion. Residents lit candles and decorated their houses with lights.

Sikh devotees recited poems, speeches and sakhis that focused on the teachings of universal brotherhood.

They also laid emphasis on embarking the path shown by the Guru for a better living.

Religious leaders urged the people to follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev and uphold the traditions of communal amity and brotherhood.

They added that Guru Nanak Dev cared for society and truly wanted to reform it. His teachings will remain relevant forever.
