Bathinda, November 20

Irked over the poor condition of the road and the overflowing sewage problem for the last around nine months, residents of Pujawala Mohalla on Wednesday staged a protest and raised slogans against the Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) and the Sewerage Board.

They warned that if the condition of the road was not improved and the sewer problem was not resolved, they would intensify their stir in the coming days. Or, they would gehrao the MCB and Sewerage Board offices.

Even women also took part in the protest and lashed out at officials for not resolving the issues for a long time.

The protesters said for providing drinking water, the construction of a water tank was started on the Mini Secretariat road in March this year. “At that time, the road was dug to lay water pipelines and the chamber was made for the disposal of sewer water. Eight months have gone by, but no road has been laid and even the chamber made for sewer disposal has started, due to these chambers have been filled with bricks and other material.

Moreover, sewage is overflowing from manholes and gets accumulated on roads along the walls of the houses. On the other hand, residents are forced to pass the road, but no action has been taken to resolve the issue. Despite the fact that they have brought the issue many times to the notice of officials of the MCB and the Sewerage Board, nothing had been done in this regard.

Protesters Raj Kumar, Jai Shiv, Ram Lal, Babu Ram, Sandeep Kumar, Bharat Bhushan, Jai Krishan, Indra Rani, Kusum Bala, Parvati Devi along with area MC Neelam Rani’s husband Mithu Ram threatened to intensify their protest in the coming days if their issues were not resolved soon.
