Bathinda, September 22

A spell of rain left low-lying areas of the city waterlogged on Sunday afternoon. The city and uts surrounding areas witnessed moderate to heavy rain in isolated areas. Commuters faced a tough time on city roads.

Many vehicles were stuck in rainwater accumulated on roads at several places.

Low-lying areas such as Power House Road, Sirki Bazar, Mall Road, 100 Feet Road near Dasmesh Public School, Dhobiana Road, outside the District Administrative Complex and Paras Ram Nagar were waterlogged after rain.

Even areas near the residences of the SSP and the Deputy Commissioner also faced the problem of waterlogging on Sunday.

It has been observed for the past years that showers lasting for only a few minutes are enough to leave roads and low-lying areas waterlogged in the absence of a proper drainage system. Sources said a major reason behind the accumulation of water was the set-up of the drainage system against the natural flow of water.
