The State Election Commission has ordered re-poll at two places in Bathinda district — booth number 17 of Dayalpura Mirza village in Bhagta Block and booth number 46 at Rattangarh Kanakwal village in Talwandi Sabo block. The polling will be held from 8 am to 4 pm on Friday.
The re-poll was recommended at Dayalpura Mirza as a person had run away with two ballot boxes while the polling was on and later he burnt the ballot papers in them.
The police had confirmed the incident while stating that they were yet to ascertain the identity of the person who fled away with the ballot boxes.
At Rattangarh Kanakwal village, the re-poll was necessitated in view of the reports that unidentified men took away blank ballot papers when the polling had almost come to a close.
Meanwhile, as per a release issued here on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Praneet said they had set up nine centres for counting of votes for the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.
The counting process will begin at 8 am on Saturday. Bathinda Development Authority’s chief administrator Dr Rishipal has been made the returning officer for the Zila Parishad elections.
Similarly, Bathinda SDM Balwinder Singh is the returning officer for Block Samiti elections.
The counting process for Bathinda block will take place at Government Polytechnic College.
Other counting centres have been set up in the district at BDPO office, Nathana; Sports School, Ghudda; Bhai Aasa Singh Girls College, Goniana; PTU Campus, Maur; Dashmesh Senior Secondary School, Talwandi Sabo; Shri Dev Samaj Kanya High School, Rampura; Punjabi University Neighbourhood Campus, Rampura Phul; and Government Senior Secondary School, Bhagta Bhaika.
