Repolling at 2 villages remains peaceful

BATHINDA: Repolling was conducted peacefully at Dayalpura Mirza and Kanakwal villages in the district on Friday for the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.

Repolling was conducted peacefully at Dayalpura Mirza and Kanakwal villages in the district on Friday for the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.

As much as 60 per cent polling was recorded at booth number 46 in Rattangarh Kanakwal village, Talwandi Sabo block while 56.94 per cent polling was recorded at booth number 17 of Dayalpura Mirza village in Bhagta block.

The re-poll was recommended at these places as a few persons had run away with ballot boxes here.

Bathinda SSP Dr Nanak Singh said, “Repolling at both these places in the district were peaceful and no untoward incident was reported.”

The district administration has made full arrangements for the counting of votes on Saturday at nine counting centres.

The counting process for Bathinda block will take place at Government Polytechnic College while other counting centres have been set up at the BDPO office, Nathana; Sports School, Ghudda; Bhai Aasa Singh Girls College, Goniana; PTU Campus, Maur; Dashmesh Senior Secondary School, Talwandi Sabo; Shri Dev Samaj Kanya High School, Rampura; Punjabi University Neighbourhood Campus, Rampura Phul; and Government Senior Secondary School, Bhagta Bhaika.

The administration has announced dry day within 1 km radius from the counting centres.

Meanwhile, 18 persons were booked for beating up a person over suspicion that he was making a video at a polling station during the Block Samiti election at Sandhu Khurd village.

In a complaint lodged with the police by Jagjit Singh, a resident of Sandhu Khurd village, it has been stated that on September 19, accused Jasvir Singh, Satnam Singh, Baljit Singh and 15 others beat him up as they were suspecting that he was making their video with his phone at a school during polling.

A case under Sections 324, 323 and 149 of the IPC has been registered at the Phul police station. However, no arrest has been made so far.
