Sweepers are doing yeomen service during the curfew by collecting garbage in Muktsar town. Local residents are lauding their efforts and even posting about their great service on social media.

Ashok Mahindra, a local resident, said, “Everyone should appreciate the work being done by the sweepers in this time of crisis. People are thanking doctors, policemen and the civil administration, but have forgotten about these unsung heroes of our society who collect garbage.”

Similarly, Sarbjit Singh, also a local resident, said, “Sweepers are coming to our locality daily. Wearing gloves and face masks, they are collecting garbage. The administration should honour them once the coronavirus scare is over.”

Meanwhile, the district administration has permitted two chemist shops each to function in Muktsar, Malout and Gidderbaha towns for three hours. Further, six petrol stations are allowed to remain open in the district – two in Muktsar town, one each in Malout, Gidderbaha, Doda and Lambi.

The reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment plant owners have been allowed to provide a door-to-door supply. Similarly, milkmen are allowed to supply milk till 9 am. However, the grocery shops and vegetable shops remained closed on Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours, the district police registered three cases for defying the ban orders issued by the District Magistrate. Besides a few people, no one was seen on roads. As of now, nobody has been found positive for coronavirus in Muktsar district.
