Bathinda, August 12

A member of the Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) of the Northern Railways, Mohan Lal Garg, recently met Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi.

After meeting the minister, Garg said two long-pending demands of Bathinda residents had been accepted by the Union Railway Ministry.

He said all platforms would now have escalators and a foot overbridge (FOB) would be constructed. With this, residents of Parasram Nagar and Partap Nagar will have direct access to the railway station.

“Tenders for installing escalators and the FOB have been given to a Bathinda-based company. The total cost of the projects is around Rs1.5 crore and these are likely to be completed within a year,” Garg said.

Expressing gratitude to the minister, Garg said these demands were pending for a long time.

Besides, minister has also announced construction of toilets on platform no. 1, 2, 3 and 4. At present, platform nos. 5, 6 and 7 have toilets.

Garg said the minister would look into other demands, including a Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train from Bathinda to Ludhiana via Dhuri, in the coming days. He said a large number of passengers board buses to reach the industrial town. A train to Delhi during day time is another demand of Bathinda residents, he added

He said extension in the washing line at the railway station had also been sought so that more coaches can be added to trains.
