Four persons were killed and more than 10 others injured in a road accident between a car and a bus on the Bathinda-Amritsar highway near Harraipur village here on Thursday evening.
Bus overturns after driver applied brakes

According to information, the accident took place when a private bus, which was going to Faridkot from Bathinda, lost its balance and overturned as the driver suddenly applied the brakes after spotting a speeding car, coming from the opposite direction.

Sources said the car crossed over to the other side of the highway after hitting the divider while trying to save a biker who was coming from the wrong direction.

Two persons were killed on the spot, while two others breathed their last on their way to the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Mayank Arora of Kotkapura, Amandeep Kaur of Burj Thror village, 10-year-old Maninder Singh of Phullo Mithi village and Gurdit Singh of Bazakhana.
SSP Nanak Singh, along with other police officers, visited the spot. The victims were admitted to a government hospital in Goniana and some of them were referred to the Civil Hospital here.
The car occupants also received injuries, but airbags prevented the damage. The bus driver also got injured in the accident.
A number of residents from adjacent villages, commuters and members of NGOs gathered at the spot and took the victims to the hospital. Policemen from the Nehianawala police station have started an investigation into the accident.
