School staff told to park vehicles at specified lots

Taking a serious note of “indisciplined” behaviour of some teaching and non-teaching staff members of government schools while parking their vehicles on the school campus, the School Education Department has directed all District Education Officers (DEOs) in the state to ask the staff members in the schools to park their vehicles at the reserved and specified places.

The letter, written by the department to all DEOs of elementary and higher secondary schools, reads that it has been observed in government schools that instead of parking their vehicles at the specified places, staff members park them haphazardly, blocking the common path and causing a hurdle in the movement of students.

Some employees do not even spare playgrounds in their schools and park their vehicles, blocking the way to the playground. Some park their vehicles under the shadow of trees or in the corridors in summer. Some vehicles can be seen parked near the entry point by teachers.

It further said blocking the way to the playground or using the ground for parking of vehicles not only caused inconvenience to students but also posed a risk of accidents.

Issuing guidelines to all schools, the department has asked the schools to make proper arrangement for the parking of vehicles in the schools. The parking of vehicles in the corridors should be strictly prohibited. While parking their vehicles, the owners should keep in mind that vehicles should not cause any inconvenience to students.

The schools should be more careful while parking vehicles during the recess time or game periods of students so that there is no mishap with students.

Most private schools faced a rush of vehicles outside the gates when parents reached in their vehicles to drop or collect their children. But as far as government schools are concerned, most staff members reached their schools in their personal vehicles, particularly cars, creating a lot of parking problems within the school compound.

As government schools have no proper parking arrangements for four-wheelers, staff members park their vehicles as per their own convenience, keeping in view the security of their vehicles and protection from the sun.
