The Whitefield School and the Little Kingdom Nursery School celebrated their Annual Sports Day here with great zeal and excitement on Sunday.

The event started with the lighting of the flame by the head boy and the head girl. Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla was the chief guest and declared the school games open after inaugurating the newly made school golf course. Deputy Commissioner Bathinda B Srinivasan was the guest of honour.

While addressing the public, Vijay Inder Singla spoke about the significance of sports in a child’s life and why the celebration of the day was important for every school.

He emphasised how sports keep children away from drugs and how sports are necessary for overall development of a child’s mind and body. He further congratulated the school staff for organising the function in the best possible way and wished them the best in all their future endeavours.

Young children, aged 3 to 9 years, participated in various events. The chief guest also took the salute of the impressive March Past of students, coupled with some stirring marching music by the band. The list of events included obstacle race, bucket race, relay race, bunny-rabbit race, hoola-hoop race, butterfly race, carrot race and a race involving mothers of students. A few cultural performances were also a part of the event. The students mesmerised the audience with their performances.

Prizes were distributed among the children who excelled in various fields. The principals of both the schools, Saroj Malik and Shuchita Grover, thanked the parents for their cooperation and support. The function culminated with the playing of national anthem. — TNS
