Spurious ghee, cooking oil seized in Mansa; three held

MANSA: A joint team of officials of the police and the Health Department has claimed to have seized spurious ghee and cooking oil in a large quantity from a shop located near one-way traffic road in Mansa on Saturday.

A joint team of officials of the police and the Health Department has claimed to have seized spurious ghee and cooking oil in a large quantity from a shop located near one-way traffic road in Mansa on Saturday.

The police claimed that the material was supplied to villagers and small shops. Miscreants used to sell these products at wholesale prices by claiming that these were products of famous brands like Tata, Verka, Tide, Amul, Britannia, Milkfood, etc.

The Mansa police have arrested three persons, including a shopkeeper, and recovered the material in a large quantity from them. The police had conducted a raid on the directions of Mansa SSP Mandhir Singh.

The police also recovered a gas stove and cyclinder, which they used in packing the prepared products, then they used to sell it in the market under various brand names.

Mansa DSP Simranjit Singh said, “On a tip-off, Mansa City 2 SHO Amanpal Singh, Health Commissioner Food Amritpal Singh and Food Safety Officer Sandeep Singh raided a shop, which was run by Praveen Kumar, a resident of Mansa.”

The police recovered 170 litres of spurious desi ghee and two quintal of cooking oil. Apart from this, even label and desi ghee boxes of various brands, including Amul, Milkfood, Verka, etc, were recovered from the shop, said the DSP. The police recovered tea boxes of Tata Tea and other brands. They claimed that 12 samples of food items had been taken and sent to a laboratory for testing. The arrested persons had been identified as Praveen Kumar, Ajay Kumar and Ranjit Jeeta.
