Bathinda, August 23

Government employees under the banner of the Punjab Subordinate Services Federation on Friday staged a protest in front of the Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) office here.

Raising slogans against the state government, the protesters, employed with different government departments, reiterated their demands and warned that in case their demands were not met soon, they would intensify their stir.

Addressing the protesters, federation leaders Karamjit Behla, Kuldeep Sharma, Gurdeep Singh, Sukhmander Singh Dhaliwal, Jeet Ram, Sarup Singh, Bittu Ram, Jasveer Singh, Harjinder Singh Sema and others said it seemed that the government was not serious about the demands of the government employees and no contract worker of any department had been regularized so far.

The government was running away after giving the time of meetings. As a result, employees were perturbed over the apathetic attitude of the state government over their demands.

They said they were demanding that in all the departments contractual workers, outsourcing, daily wagers and temporary workers should be regularised. Dearness Allowance (DA) instalments should be released, the Pay Commission report implemented, old-pension scheme restarted, professional tax of Rs 200 imposed on employees cancelled and stop privatisation of government departments.

They said the employees were against the professional tax imposed by the government and demanded that it should be abolished. The federation demanded that midday meal workers and ASHA workers should be given salary like regular employees.

They said for employees who were recruited after 2004, the contributory pension scheme should be cancelled and the employees should be brought under the old pension scheme. They urged the state government to implement the ‘equal pay for equal pay’ principle and increase salaries, allowances and other benefits to those working on a contract and outsourcing basis on a par with the regular employees.

The protest was led by district president of the federation Hans Raj Bajwa and state vice-president Karamjit Behla and Kuldeep Sharma.
