Bathinda, October 15

Members of the Bathinda unit of DAV Colleges Retired Teachers’ Association, Punjab, on Tuesday organised a silent protest at the office of Principal DAV College, Bathinda, against the DAV College Managing Committee (DCMC) over the non-payment of arrears of Contributory Pension Fund (CPF).

A large number of retired teachers participated in the protest. Addressing the gathering, Prof Rajnish Kumar, state president of the association, said the Punjab Governor, who is also the Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala, and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, had sanctioned the payment of CPF at a rat e of 10% of total salary to teachers of government-aided colleges in 1982. The sanction had the concurrence of the state Finance Department.

He said the association submitted a number of representations to higher authorities, including the Governor and the president of the DCMC, but these had gone unheeded. Prof DR Singla and Prof IK Sukheja, president and secretary of the local unit, respectively, termed it as a clear case of discrimination as the retired teachers of colleges affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh, had already been granted the benefit by the committee.

The teachers appealed to the DCMC to implement these orders without any further delay as the retired teachers were in the gray years of their life and were leading a deplorable and pathetic life in absence of pensionary benefits.— TNS
