The police have booked three persons on the charge of abetment to suicide.
A few days ago, a woman had committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance.
According to the police, Gurpreet Kaur of Mandi Kalan village had committed suicide as her husband used to beat her up.
The police said she used to stop her husband from taking drugs.
The suspects have been identified as deceased’s husband Gurbaj Singh, her brother-in-law Parampal Singh and father-in-law Daman Singh, all residents of Mandi Kalan village.
According to information, when the victim had stopped her husband from taking drugs on November 24, Gurbaj, along with his brother and father, had beaten her up. Fed up with the incident, she took the extreme step.
Deceased’s brother Kuldeep Singh of Bhaini Chud village told the police that her sister Gurpreet was married to Gurbaj Singh 18 years ago and they had a son and a daughter.
He said his brother-in-law was a drug addict and under the influence of drugs, he used to beat her sister. Kuldeep said their dispute had also reached the panchayat on a few occasions, but Gurbaj did not stop taking drugs.
He said his sister used to stop him from taking drugs. However, the suspects are yet to be arrested. The police said raids were on to nab the suspects.
