Kotkapura, November 17

The Kotkapura police on Sunday arrested a rice miller and his son in connection with the murder of a property dealer, Mandeep Singh, over some dispute. The police have also recovered the revolver which was used in the crime.

Before arresting Gurdev Singh and his son Gagandeep Singh, both residents of New Colony on Machaki Mal Singh Road, the police registered a murder case against them on a complaint of victim’s brother Sukhdeep Singh.

The suspects are the owners of a rice mill in Kotkapura. It is alleged that the suspects were to pay Rs5.5 lakh as a commission payment to the victim as the latter helped them make deals in purchasing some properties.

According to information, the victim and his friend had gone to the rice mill to seek Rs5.5 lakh on Saturday evening.

However, the suspects and victim reportedly exchanged heated arguments.

It is alleged that under the influence of liquor, the suspects had opened fire on the victim, killing him on the spot after a bullet hit him in his rear. The police said they were conducting a further probe into the case.
