Will not tolerate any political interference, says SSP

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Nanak Singh on Tuesday said that he would not allow political interference in police working.

He said since the day he took charge as SSP there was no political interference so far as he had not received any calls from any one and was hopeful that in the future as well he would not receive any political interference as the police were for the safety of people and maintaining law and order in the area.

He said while interacting with mediapersons during the “Meet-the-Press” progamme organised by him after joining as the Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police.

Dr Nanak Singh said his main priority was the safety of residents and he wanted to create an atmosphere where people could roam freely without any fear in the city.

Referring to fight against the drug menace, he said the police would tighten the noose around medical stores selling habit-forming drugs in the city. He held a meeting with drug inspectors and told them to prepare a list of medical stores and start conducting checking and if anybody was found selling medicines without a valid licence, then strict action as per law would be initiated against him.

The SSP claimed that he had also instructed the police officials to create backward and forwards link in drugs cases as the police should also identify the suppliers of drugs and to whom it was to be supplied, so that the police could break the supply chain and identify drug addicts, who could be treated.

Senior Superintendent of Police Nanak Singh said traffic in the city would be streamlined soon and he noted the points given by journalists in the meeting and assured that these points would be taken note of.

The main issue raised by mediapersons was parking of auto rickshaws in the middle of the road, the SSP claimed he would direct traffic police to take action in this regard.

He said, “We would see the working of all police officials and after which reshuffling of the officials would be done as per the transfer policy issued by the Director-General of Police (DGP).”
