Youth dies of drug overdose in Maur

Bathinda, July 21

A youth died of drug overdose at Ward No. 3 in Maur Mandi on Friday night. After the death, residents staged a protest against the sale of drugs.

On Saturday, residents and members an NGO reached the Maur police station and asked the police to register a murder case against drug smugglers.

Thereafter, on a statement of deceased’s mother Reshma Kaur, a case under Section 302 of the IPC was registered against Manga Singh.

Reshma said her elder son Aman Singh got hooked to drugs under the influence of his friends.

She said, “On July 19, Aman had asked for money and went outside to get medicines with his cousin Shiva. Thereafter, he returned home but his condition was not well. Shiva told me that Aman met Manga, who said there was no need to buy the medicine. Manga said Aman would be fine after taking an injection.”

“After that, Aman’s health started getting deteriorated. He was taken to a private hospital in Maur, but the doctor refused to treat him. Later, he was taken to the Civil Hospital in Bathinda where he breathed his last. — TNS
