BJP: Cong, AAP playing politics

New Delhi, February 27

Union Minister and senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar today alleged that the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were politicising the violence in Delhi, as both parties were “attempting to give it a religious colour” while refusing to make efforts to ensure peace in riot-affected areas.

Addressing media at the BJP headquarters here after the Congress delegation led by party chief Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called on President Ram Nath Kovind, the Union Minister said the Opposition party wanted to fuel tension. Javadekar alleged that the Congress and AAP were responsible for the violence in the Capital. “The situation in Delhi demanded that all political parties work for promoting peace. The MLAs of AAP didn’t work on the ground for peace. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at the same time sought to give a religious colour to the violence in the city,” he said.

Javadekar also referred to some comments of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and further targeted the Opposition by highlighting the ammunition —- stones and petrol bombs —— allegedly stored at an AAP leader’s residence.

The minister also wondered why the Congress and AAP have maintained silence on the attacks on the Delhi Police and Intelligence officials. Dismissing the demand for the resignation of Amit Shah as “petty politics”, he said the government’s prompt action ensured peace in violence-hit areas.
