Jalandhar, January 20

With the vision to promote Punjabi literature among the youth and creating a platform where ideas can be exchanged for making contribution to the Punjabi literature, a city-based author and storyteller has released his book, ‘Ateet De Warke’.

Famously known as Davinder Mand (55), the author through his book has highlighted past incidents of his life and shared experiences on countering several stages of Punjabi literature. Besides writing books, Mand is currently working as an associate professor in Punjabi Department of DAV College.

He has been working as an academician for the past 27 years and has 12 Punjabi books to his credit. His love for storytelling has also made him popular among kids as several of his write-ups have been added to the syllabus of students studying in the Punjab State Education Board and the Central Board of Secondary Education.

He has also been awarded by the State Language Department for his regular contribution in the field of Punjabi literature for young minds and has also been conferred on with several prizes like Kulwant Singh Virk and Karnail Singh Nizzar awards that are usually given to dedicated Punjabi authors.

Upset with the declining trend of readers towards Punjabi literature and students interest towards opting Punjabi as a subject in higher classes, Mand said: “Time has come, when we need to preserve the essence of Punjabi literature as with society converging on the path of modernisation, Punjabi was somewhere losing its importance. Presently the literature is being read and reviewed by the fellow authors only and we are not getting critical reviews from the general readers.”— TNS
